Special Event to be held at the Coronado Museum

Drop by the museum this Sunday, December 8th, for a brief exhibit event spotlighting the Liberal Tornado of 1933. The early thirties were already a time of drought and dust storm, creating a trying atmosphere that was only compounded by the tragedy of Liberal’s first major tornado. The town’s dedication to recovery even as the Dust bowl loomed creates a story of tragedy, survival and even unlikely hope amidst a bleak period of our region’s history.

Thanks to the efforts of our own Lidia Gray, this event will feature special video introductions from Iowa State University Professors Pamela Riney-Kehrberg and Julie Courtwright. We are very grateful to both professors for their contributions, so we encourage residents to swing by and learn about this important event from the experts!
