The City of Liberal has been awarded more than $32,000 from the Kansas Tourism department’s Attraction Development Grant program for the creation of a “Ruby Red Slipper Slide.”
The “Ruby Red Slipper Slide” will provide a whimsical welcome for travelers on the busy Highway 54 corridor and enhance the overall experience for visitors in Liberal. This larger-than-life slide will replicate Dorothy Gale’s famous ruby red slippers. Standing nearly 10-feet tall, the slide size supports child and adult users while providing a stellar photo opportunity for visitors.
Located on the grounds of Liberal’s Tourist Information Center, the slide provides an opportunity to draw visitors in to learn more about local attractions, including Dorothy’s House and the Land of Oz exhibit, Coronado Museum, Mid-America Air Museum, Pancake Day Hall of Fame, Arkalon Park, and the Baker Arts Center.
The project will be funded by the Attraction Development Grant award and transient guest tax revenues. Installation is expected to be completed in 2025.
