December 2, 2024-Emporia State Lady Hornet Katie Horyna has been named the MIAA Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week, presented by Southern Bank.

The Liberal, Kan. native averaged 25.0 points on .613 shooting from the field with 9.5 rebounds and 6.0 assists in two games for Emporia State last week.

She scored 25 points with nine rebounds, seven assists and two steals in the Lady Hornets 89-80 win over Ottawa.  Two days later at Missouri S&T, the graduate student came back with 25 points, a career high 10 rebounds and five assists for her first career double-double.

Horyna is now fourth in the MIAA in scoring and third in assists this season.

The Lady Hornets open up MIAA play on Thursday, December 5 when they play host to #15 Northwest Missouri.  Tip-off in White Auditorium is set for 5:30 p.m.

Fans can get a free admission to Thursday’s men’s and women’s double header against the Bearcats by bringing a new teddy bear or other plush toy to take part in the Emporia State SAAC/Salvation Army Teddy Bear Toss during halftime of the men’s game.
