Benjamin (Benjy) Ray Johannsen

Benjamin (Benjy) Ray Johannsen, age 44, passed Tuesday, November 5, 2024, in Gunnison Colorado.

He was born September 24, 1980, in Meade, Kansas, the son of Max and Barbara (Magee) Johannsen. As a young boy, he attended Meade Grade School and later Meade High School, graduating in the Class of 2000. He later attended Pratt County Community College majoring in Electrical Sciences, graduating in 2002. After his graduation, he returned to Meade and started his journeyman lineman career at CMS Electrical. He them moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, and joined the IBEW Local Union 1002 of Tulsa, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

On September 2, 2011, he married Morgan Harmon-Simpson at Tulsa, Oklahoma.

They have a daughter Crosby Joe on July 16th, 2012 – she was the light of his life and his whole world.

Benjy spent a majority of his career extensively traveling the country as a lineman, then later, as a general foreman and manager. He had a great passion for his trade and the people he worked with. Everywhere he lived/worked he made countless lifelong friends who all spoke of his laughter and sense of humor. He never met a stranger! No matter where he was or how busy he was he always made time to call home to his family or stop and see old friends.

He is survived by his wife Morgan and daughter Crosby of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; his parents Max & Barb Johannsen, of Meade; a brother Jimmy (Jada) Johannsen, of Meade; a sister Riki Johannsen, of Meade; maternal grandparents Doug & Clara Houston, Omaha, Nebraska; mother-in-law, Susie Harmon, Kellyville, Oklahoma; a brother-in-law Taylor (Sarah) Harmon, Tulsa, Oklahoma; nieces Cheyenne Warford & Lainey Johannsen; a nephew – Clayton Johannsen; and many uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.

He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents WH “Billy” and Agnes Johannsen; his maternal grandfather, Jim Magee; a brother Clayton; a niece Gabrielle; and father-in-law Tim Harmon.

A Celebration of Benjy’s life will be held at 5:00 p.m. Saturday, November 23, 2024, at the Forst Center, 500 W. Carthage, Meade, Kansas.
