Liberal, Kansas – Seward County wrapped up their 2024 volleyball regular season on Saturday when they honored their five sophomores before taking on the Garden City Broncbusters where the Lady Saints were unable to put points together in what ended as a 3-0 loss at home to end regular season action.
SCCC started the first set strong with Lajla Rasljanin rising up in the center of the net for a hammer down the middle to put Seward County ahead and a repeat of the sequence a few points later stretched the lead to three at 11-8. Camden Bizot and Rasljanin combined at the pin for a big block to keep the lead intact at 16-13 before a run from Garden City closed the gap to even up the score. Mariana Silva rose up for an emphatic kill to try and push the Lady Saints back in front but could not accomplish the goal as SCCC fell in set one 25-21.
The second set was all Garden City as the Lady Saints played from behind throughout the set but did manage to keep it close with Rasljanin rising up with Keala Wilson at her side for a roof raising block to trim the deficit down to 12-8. Silva once again rose up high for a kill at the pin while on the opposite end of the net it was Meloni Miller who made good on a powerful swing to trim the gap down further. Despite fighting back against the Broncbusters, Seward County gave up too many points in a row to their opponent as they fell in the second 25-17 to fall behind two sets to none.
The Lady Saints repeated their struggles in the third as multiple errors resulted in them trying to play catch up against Garden City but could not climb back. Wilson and Miller each knocked in a kill from the pin to try and close the gap at 18-11 while Rasljain rose up for a solo stuff to make it a five-point game. A pair of aces from the Broncbusters once again stretched their lead far ahead of the Saints and despite a late kill from Marcelina Pykain the middle, Seward County could not pull off a comeback as they fell 25-16 in the third set to fall in a 3-0 sweep to end the regular season.
SCCC now falls to 8-18 to end the regular season while falling to 4-12 in Jayhawk conference action. The Lady Saints will be on the road to begin the Region VI Tournament on Wednesday with Seward County being listed as the seventh seed and will take on the second seeded Colby Trojans.
