Last season, LHS won their first regional soccer title in eight years. In 2024, the Redskins win their second straight regional title on Halloween night at Redskin Field. Liberal blanked visiting Wichita Northwest 2-0 Thursday night. Both goals came in the first half. Suain Moncayo jumped over defenders to head the first goal into the north net with an assist from Josh Garcia at the 23:26 mark. Diego Pavia scores from about 30 yards out for the 2-0 lead with 4:35 remaining in the half. Johnny Young got the assist. The Redskins held down the fort in the second half for their 10th shutout of the season led by goal keeper Gael Ruvalcaba.
It’s Liberal’s first back to back regional titles since 2011 and 2012. At that time, the Redskins had gone to 10 final fours in 11 year. LHS won at Bishop Carroll to win a regional in 2015 and won the regional at Derby last year.
Wichita Northwest finishes 7-11. Liberal is 13-4-1 and goes to Topeka to play 13-2-3 Washburn Rural Monday night at 6pm.
