Redskins Corral Colts to Begin 6A Playoffs

The Liberal Redskin soccer team won their postseason opener 7-0 over the Campus Colts Tuesday night at Redskin Field.  Diego Pavia had a hat trick while Giezi Gonzalez and Ariel Gaytan chipped in two goals a piece.  Giezi Gonzalez dished two assists while Johnny Young and Alan Baeza had one a piece.

The Redskins worked against the south wind in the first half.  Diego Pavia put in the first goal into the south net at the 32:25 mark.  Giezi Gonzalez scored from the deep middle to give LHS a 2-0 lead at the 27:28 mark.  Ariel Gaytan got in on the act at the 26:16 mark for the 3-0 lead at the 26:16 mark.  LHS led 3-0 at the half.  Diego Pavia’s goal at the 38:39 mark made it 4-0.  Ariel Gaytan scored moments later at the 37:40 mark for the 5-0 lead.  Giezi Gonzalez slipped a penalty kick past the Campus keeper for the 6-0 lead at the 24:20 mark.  Diego Pavia put in Liberal’s 7th goal at the 11:14 mark.

Liberal is 12-4-1 and Campus finishes 6-11.  The Redskins host the Wichita Northwest Grizzlies Thursday night at 6:30 for a regional final.  Northwest upset Topeka 2-0 in Topeka Tuesday night.
