Liberal Teen Dies in Accident on Highway 54

A fatality accident occurred Thursday afternoon at approximately3:50 pm on US Highway 54 and County Road 17.

A 1993 Chevy 1500, being driven 15 year old Emilee Hamilton of Liberal, was stopped at the stop sign on County Road 17 at the Junction. The driver of the Chevy, failed to yield and turned Westbound onto US 54, pulling out in front of a 2025 Kenworth semi being driven by James Campbell Bailey, 60, of Wichita. The Kenworth collided with the Chevy in the intersection. Both vehicles came to rest in the North ditch, partially in the lanes. The Kenworths power unit and trailer came to rest on its side.

The juvenile died at the scene. Bailey was not injured. Seatbelts were in use in both vehicles.
