Seward County Commission Approves Landfill Price Increase

Joe Denoyer - September 16, 2024 8:31 pm

The Seward County Commission met on Monday evening and heard from Diversidad Latina requesting the fees be waived for Women Conference they are having at the AG Building on November 16, 2024. Where this event does not meet the public purpose criteria, County Clerk Stacia Long and Commissioner Helm agreed to pay the fees for the event.

The Commission approved a mixed-use, Rural Residential Subdivision contingent upon the County Engineer’s review and approval, receipt of covenants, and an approved developers’ agreement in place. The board also approved a chemical purchase for the Noxious Weed Department to finish out 2024.

Commissioners approved Charter Resolution No. 17. to use home rule authority to exempt Seward County from a provision of K.S.A. 65-202 regarding annual sanitary inspections of school buildings and grounds by the local health officer. By opting out, this will reduce the regulatory burden on schools.

The Board approved the JCAPS FY24 Year-End Outcome Report and approved the standards for JIAS 05-102 Supervision Services and CSS 04-141 Family Engagement.

The Commission tabled County’s overlay projects pending further information regarding an addition to the project.

Commissioners raised the tonnage from $35.00 per ton to $38.00 per ton at the Landfill, added $3 to the receptacle price, and accepted the bid by OC Quality Custom Homes and issue a Notice to Proceed as appropriate for Seward County Detention and Courthouse Remodels. The bid came in at $859,749.53.
