Liberal, Kansas – After earning KJCCC Goalkeeper of the Week honors in week one of the 2024 season, sophomore goalkeeper Bruno Mestres was named Goalkeeper of the Week for the second straight week in the Jayhawk after helping to lead Seward County to an undefeated week.
In two games for the Saints, Mestres recorded a total of 9 saves with 0 goals allowed in 135:00 minutes manning the goal. He started the week off with 6 saves against Kansas City Kansas in a game that ended in a 0-0 tie before recording 3 more saves in a 4-0 win for SCCC over Lamar this past Sunday. This is now the fourth time in Mestres’ career that he has earned KJCCC Goalkeeper of the Week honors with it being the second straight time in the 2024 campaign.
“We are all beyond happy for Bruno” said Head Coach Jaime Beltran. “To earn this honor in back-to-back weeks takes a special kind of effort that he always gives us on the field.”
The Saints next matchup will be tomorrow on September 4th when Seward County heads eastward to take on #6 Cowley in KJCCC action with kickoff beginning at 7:00 PM.
