Tuesday night the 7th Grade Lady Warriors opened the 2024 Volleyball season off hosting Hugoton and Ulysses Keplely. The Lady Warriors handled the Eagles in a two game set winning both games 25-13. The Warriors started the first game tentatively trailing 4-9. During a time out, the Warrior Ladies redirected themselves behind Emma Graham’s serving taking a 10-9 lead. The Warriors outscored the Eagles 21-4 after the time out with strong service from Krislyn Sanchez and Sakae Gonzalez.
The Warrior cruised as well in the first game against Kepley defeating the Tigers 25-14. Kepley bounced back in the second game giving the Warriors all they could handle. With an opportunity late in the game to pull out a win, the Warriors fell short 26-28 forcing a third game.
The final set had both teams trading points keeping it close until the Tigers jumped to an 11-14 lead late in the game. Devyn Horyna came in to serve and finished off the set with a 5 point run to have the Warriors win the match 16-14.
I’m proud of how these Ladies came together and persevered through some challenges late in the game and were able to pull out the win. This is certainly a great thing to build on as we look forward to the start of the season. The Ladies play Guymon Thursday night at 4pm at the Eisenhower Gym.
The Lady Warriors 7th Grade B team had an absolutely phenomenal start to their volleyball season last night! After a close first set against Hugoton, the Lady Warriors were able to secure a tight victory of 25-23, Yareli Sarabia scored the most points attacking the ball for the team that set, while Deisy Solorzano helped her team polish off the Hugoton Eagles with a final run of 6 untouchable serves. Their second set saw notable, point scoring plays from both Shalee Blanton and Deisy Solorzano. Jocelyn Medina brought the girls a win after a 13 serve run, earning the Lady Warriors their first win of the season, with a final score of 25-17.
Against their second team of the night, the Kepley Tigers, the Lady Warriors established a quick lead and were able to secure a 25-7 victory in the first set. Notable serving runs were completed again by Deisy Solorzano and Jocelyn Medina, with Yareli Sarabia assisting with her own 5 consecutive serving run. Shalee Blanton was quick to stop one of Kepley’s top servers, ensuring the Lady Warriors were able to keep their early lead. In the second set, the night’s captain Jae Gonzales scored her own three points, consistently attacking the ball from the front line. Once again, Jocelyn Medina led her team in an impressive 9 serves. The Lady Warriors brought home their second win of the season, winning the second set against Kepley 25-15.
Naydalin Perez, Sari Saint John, Yareli Arevalo, and Danna Puente all made great plays on the ball that night, supporting their team with their quick thinking and determination in helping the Lady Warriors to a successful night.
