After ending Derby’s soccer season in 2023, the Liberal Redskins topped Derby 3-1 to begin the 2024 soccer season at the Wichita South Titan Classic Monday afternoon.
The Skins struck first. Josh Garcia’s corner kick led to a Suain Moncayo goal 7:30 into the first half for the 1-0 lead. D’Alessandro Chavira found the back of the net with 25 minutes remaining in the half. The Redskins led the Panthers 2-0 at halftime. Derby scored on a penalty kick due to a foul in the box at the 23:38 mark to make it 2-1. But LHS cushioned their lead when Alan Baeza scored with an assist from Johnny Young.
Liberal plays Wichita Heights Wednesday night at 6pm.
