Southwest Medical Center Announces 15th Annual Community Health Fair

Liberal, KS – August 1, 2024 – Southwest Medical Center (SWMC) is excited to announce the 15th Annual Community Health Fair, scheduled for Saturday, October 5th, from 7 a.m. to noon at the Seward County Activity Center in Liberal, Kansas. This highly anticipated event is open to the public and aims to provide hundreds of residents from Kansas and surrounding regions with access to free and low-cost preventive health screenings, education services, and wellness products.
The team at SWMC is diligently preparing for this significant event, which will feature over 50 booths dedicated to health and wellness. These booths will offer a wealth of information about various organizations, products, and services available to the community.
Attendees can take advantage of a wide array of free exams provided by SWMC, including:
Clinical breast exams
Orthopedic and sports medicine consultations
Pulse oximetry testing
Blood pressure measurements
The Liberal Lion’s Club mobile screening unit will also be present, offering no-cost screenings such as:
Visual acuity/vision screens
Field of vision tests
Blood pressure tests
Blood sugar tests
Additionally, Dr. Mona Rane will be providing free skin cancer exams. First Dental will offer free oral cancer screenings, and Dynatest Physical Therapy will offer free physical therapy evaluations.
“Our goal is to encourage our community to be proactive about their health and to make it a priority. The screenings offered will aid in early detection. Preventive care is so important because it helps you stay healthy and access prompt treatment when necessary. It can also help you reduce your overall medical expenses,” said Janeth Vazquez, Marketing and Development Director at Southwest Medical Center.
The event will also include a series of lab tests available for $35 per person, including:
Comprehensive metabolic profile
Lipid profile
Thyroid screen
Complete blood count
Vitamin D & B12 panel
Additional tests available for $7 each include:
PSA (prostate-specific antigen) testing for men aged 40 and older
CEA (carcinoembryonic antigen) screen for women
HGB A1C (glycated hemoglobin) test for long-term glucose control
Magnesium level tests
New this year, the health fair will feature stations for physicals and surgery checkups, where providers will perform evaluations for lumps, hernias, and bumps.
Veterans and first responders (spouses & dependents not included) will receive free lab screenings courtesy of Southwest Medical Center. Veterans and First Responders are asked to present their military/work ID.
Admission to the Community Health Fair is free for the general public, and no pre-registration is required for lab tests or screenings. Visitors interested in having lab tests done at the health fair should plan to fast for at least eight hours before testing.
