Gerald W. Hill, age 89, passed away early Friday morning, August 2, 2024, at the Stevens County Hospital, Hugoton, Kansas.

He was born November 27, 1934, at Wellington, Kansas, the son of Roy E. and Wilma R. (Cullumber) Hill. As a young boy, he attended grade school in Mayfield, Kansas, and later attending and graduating from Wellington High School in 1952.

On June 20, 1954, he married Anna Strader at Wellington. After their marriage, the couple made their home in Wellington, moving to Plains, Kansas, on August 1, 1964, serving as the manager of the fertilizer department for the Plains Equity Exchange for eight years. He later began farming for many years.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Lions Club, and the Plains Co-Op. He enjoyed antique tractors, woodworking, traveling in their motor home, and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Anna of Plains; his children, Deborah Benjamin of Plains, Kathryn Haynes of Hugoton, Kansas, and Jeffery Hill of Nashville, Tennessee; seventeen grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his daughter Brenda Sylvester; a great-grandson Dominic Esarey parents; and two brothers, Ronald and Richard Hill.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 5, 2024, at the First Baptist Church with interment to follow in the Plains Cemetery, both of Plains. The family will received friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Sunday at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.

The family would welcome memorials to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.
