Brock Kappelmann - July 17, 2024 7:13 am

The Liberal Bee Jay defense committed four errors and allowed six unearned runs in an 8-5 loss to the Hays Larks at Brent Gould Field Tuesday night.  The game was called after six innings as a thunderstorm warning was posted for Liberal.  The Larks move to within 1.5 games of the Bee Jays in the Rocky Mountain.

Hays scored two in the first on one hit and two B.J. errors.  The Larks added one in the second to lead 3-0.  The Bee Jays broke out with five in the third.  Miller Durham singled and Robert Orr singled him home.  Lane Snow hit a towering double off the wall in left.  Matt Cormier walked.  Kyzer Harrington lined a grand slam inside the left field foul pole to give the Bee Jays a 5-3 lead.  But the B.J. defense let down again in the fourth.  After Liberal retired the first two hitters, Hays had six singles.  But Liberal committed two errors as only one of the five runs was earned.  But the damage was done as the Larks claimed an 8-5 lead.  The Bee Jays were held scoreless the last three innings.

Both teams had 13 hits a piece.  Liberal had four errors and Hays did not commit an error.  Josh Doerr pitched 3 and 2/3 innings allowing two earned runs.  Fidel Hatch pitched 2 and 1/3 innings and did not allow a run.  Lane Snow was 3-4.  Kyzer Harrington was 2-3 with a grand slam.  Robert Orr, Tommy Molina, and Ryota Kusumoto had two hits a piece.

Hays is 23-8 overall and 18-6 in the Rocky Mountain.  Liberal is 22-5 overall and 20-5 in the Rocky Mountain.  The same two teams meet Wednesday night at 7pm with the Dugout Show at 6:45 on 1270 and 92.3.  Dr. Dora Finney is the buyout sponsor.  Seward County Community College will hold a benefit cookout for the Still family at 6pm.  It is also Rattler Night.
