Passing lane project to begin July 22 in Meade County

Joe Denoyer - July 15, 2024 6:27 am

According to the Kansas Department of Transportation, traffic changes are anticipated to start on Monday, July 22, along U.S. 54 from 3.5 miles east of the east intersection of U.S. 54/160 eastbound for 2.7 miles in Meade County. The traffic changes are needed to allow for passing lanes to be constructed.

U.S. 54 traffic will be reduced to one lane through the 2.1-mile-long project area. Motorists should expect delays of up to 15 minutes as flaggers and a pilot car direct one-lane traffic through the work zone. The lane reduction will be marked by signs and cones. U.S. 54 will be open to normal traffic when construction is not taking place.

J&R Sand, of Liberal, is the contractor on this $8.4 million project. Weather permitting, it is expected to be completed by the end of December.

For more information on this project, contact Joel Valdez, Area Construction Manager, at (620) 624-4451, or Yazmin Moreno, Southwest Public Information Officer, at (620) 765-7080.
