Bee Jays Hold Off A’s for 11th Straight Win

The layoff didn’t slow down the Liberal Bee Jays. After 4 days off, the Liberal Bee Jays held off the Dodge City A’s 10-8 Wednesday night at Cavalier Field in Dodge City. The Bee Jays built a 7-2 lead on the way to the win.
The A’s struck for two in the first against starter Fidel Hatch. The B.J.’s evened the score with two in the second. Joel Roberts singled and stole a base. Cesar Gomez walked and stole a base. Ben Merriman walked with the bases loaded. The other run scored on a wild pitch. Liberal scored five runs on seven hits in the fourth. Tommy Molina led off the inning with a single. Ben Merriman singled home a run. Lane Snow singled home a run. Miller Durham and Robert Orr singled. James Nolan singled home a run. Joel Roberts was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Cesar Gomez singled home a run for the 7-2 lead. DC scored in the bottom of the fourth toe make it 7-3. They plated two in the fifth to make it 7-5. Robert Orr doubled to lead off the sixth. Cesar Gomez hit a towering home run to left for the 9-5 lead. The A’s stayed hot scoring two in the sixth to make it 9-7. Robert Orr hit a solo home run to the scoreboard in left center to lead off the eighth to make it 10-7. Dodge City threatened with one in the ninth.
Bobby Orr was Epic Touch Player of the Game going 3-4 with a home run and a double. Cesar Gomez was 2-4 with three RBI’s and a home run. Joel Robert got on base four of five times. Fidel Hatch pitched the first five innings for the win with four strikeouts. Brooks Kappelmann returned back to the Bee Jays from the Shrine Bowl football game and pitched two perfect innings with four strikeouts and no walks. Logan Wade struck out two in the ninth.
Dodge City is 9-12 overall and 8-8 in the Rocky Mountain. Liberal is 15-2 overall and 14-2 in the Rocky Mountain. The Bee Jays host the A’s for the 4th of July Game Thursday night at 7pm with Dugout Show coverage at 6:45 on 1270 and 92.3. Community Bank, City of Liberal, and Seward County Community College are the sponsors. Fireworks will follow the game.
