David Hunter Minor

David Hunter Minor, 80, passed away on Friday, June 7, after a long illness.

He was born in Liberty, MO, on May 27, 1944, to Royal C. and Helen H. Minor.

The family moved to western Kansas during his early years and finally settled in Liberal when
David was 14 years old. He attended Liberal High School class of 1962 and joined the United
States Navy where he completed his GED. David proudly served on the USS Black DD 666
from 1965-1969. He completed three tours of Vietnam serving as a 3 rd Class Machinist Mate.
David loved his Navy brethren and attended numerous reunions over the years in many places
across the U.S.

David returned to Liberal and married Mary L. Blackmore on December 8, 1969. They were
married for 37 years until Mary’s death. They reared two children while living in Liberal for nearly
20 years. During this time, David worked as a maintenance supervisor at National Beef Packing.
He continued maintenance work in the beef packing industry before changing his vocation to an
HVAC technician working for Stewart Plumbing & Heating in Dodge City, KS, until his retirement.
David married Donna M. DeNoon on December 4, 2013, in Dodge City, KS. They enjoyed their
retirement years together attending car shows, traveling to Navy reunions, taking cruises, and
spending time with their family. They returned to Liberal and lived until his death.

David is survived by his wife Donna, his daughter, Barbara (Brian) Holmes, his son, Steven
Minor, his step children Douglas (Andrea) DeNoon, Lynn (Bob) Kent, Frank (Lori) DeNoon,
Teresa (Joe) Troutner, and Billy (Kellie) DeNoon; his grandsons T.J. Simmons, Jeff (Sydney)
Minor, Bryce Minor, Kamren Holmes; step grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is
also survived by his sister, Mary (Harry) Nelson, sister-in-law Barbara Jane Blackmore, brother-
in-law John Blackmore, and many nieces and nephews.

David was preceded in death by his brother Paul Minor, his parents, his wife Mary, brother-in-
law, Monty Blackmore, sister-in-law, Jill Blackmore, and step daughter, Sue DeNoon Delgado.

Viewing will be 9:00 am to 1:00 pm on Monday June 17, 2024 with the Funeral Service following
at 2:00 pm at the Miller Mortuary Chapel.

The family suggests Memorial Donations to be made payable to American Legion Post 80 or VFW Post 3166 in care of Miller Mortuary PO Box 826
Liberal, KS 67905-0826.
