Liberal, Kansas – Seward County struggled to take down Colby twenty-four hours ago as the Saints fell behind in the series 2-1 entering Monday’s contest where Keagon Pitton led the way for SCCC to topple the Trojans 11-6 to split the series to start the final week of the regular season in 2024.

Todd Baffa helped lead the Saints to a strong start in the bottom of the first as an RBI double from the redshirt freshman began a six-run inning with Pitton adding a 2 RBI double to left field as Seward County raced ahead 6-0. Colby put themselves on the board in the top of third with a trio of scores to slice the lead in half until the Saints matched the Trojans efforts when Pitton stepped back up and doubled on a line drive to center to help Mason Hagel-Pitt score while another two runs for SCCC pushed the lead back to six at 9-3.

Seward County refused to take their foot off the gas as the Saints continued to add to their total with a lead of 10-5 entering the seventh and although the Trojans climbed back to being down by only four scores, a big swing from Pitton in the bottom of the eighth resulted in an RBI single to bring Hagel-Pitt home for a final score of 11-6. SCCC now ends their series with Colby tied 2-2 to place them sixth in the KJCCC standings to start the final week of the regular season.

Seward County now improves to 27-24 overall on the 2024 season with a conference record of 15-13 against Jayhawk conference opponents. They will hit the road on Thursday for their final KJCCC series of the year when they face Pratt in a doubleheader with game one of the series beginning at 1:00 PM before the Saints return home for Sophomore Day on Saturday.
