Liberal senior baseball player J. Brooks Kappelmann is this week’s Hay Rice and Associates Athlete of the Week.  Kappelmann struck out 13 in a 3-0 shutout win at Holcomb on Thursday.  Brooks also delivered a triple in that win.  In game two, Kappelmann was 3-3 with a double and three runs.  Brooks was also named class salutatorian Wednesday night.

On the mound, Kappelmann is 4-1 with a .92 ERA.  He has 53 strikeouts and 10 walks.  Kappelmann leads the 9-7 Redskins in hitting with a .449 batting average.  He has five doubles and four triples to go along with with 17 RBI’s and a team leading 19 runs.

Brooks has been first team all state in baseball and football.  Kappelmann was the offensive WAC Player of the Year in football and will represent the West in the Shrine Bowl football game this summer. He was WAC Player of the Year in baseball. Brooks was 2nd team all WAC in basketball. He is president of the All are Welcome Club which he originated at Eisenhower Middle School. He is student council senior class vice president. He was in the fall musical. He is FCA all state and a member of NHS. The Redskins host Southwestern Heights Monday night at 5pm.
