Liberal, Kansas – After leading Seward County in scoring in her only season as a Lady Saint, Jamia Carter has made her decision to sign at the four-year level with the Vikings of Portland State to continue both her athletic and academic career at the Division 1 level.
Carter was a KJCCC All-Conference Honorable Mention selection after leading the Lady Saints in scoring with 14.1 points per game to go with 3.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists. In 30 games she totaled 424 points while knocking down 125 free throws which was tied for the 18th most made free throws in the NJCAA. Eight times in her sophomore season Carter reached the 20+ point mark with a career high of 31 in an overtime win over Cisco.
Carter will be joining a Portland State squad that struggled in the 2023-24 season with an 8-23 overall record while grabbing only three wins in conference action as they went 3-15 in Big Sky play. She will step in and be looked to as an immediate scoring option with the Vikings losing their only double-digit scorer from a season ago.
“We are so excited for Jamia in the next step of her journey. Even though she only spent one season with us at Seward, her impact on our program was immense” Head Coach Will Marchino said. “The Vikings are getting an aggressive scorer who can attack the basket and step out and knock down the 3. Jamia progressively got better defensively as the year went on for us at Seward. Moving on to the D1 level, Jamia will be able to guard the point or the wing.”
Carter is the first Lady Saint to sign to the four-year level out of the 2023-24 class with a number of other players still making their decisions on where to continue their careers so stay tuned to SewardSaints.com for the latest updates.
