Liberal, Kansas – After a week that saw Nathan Hopkins clinch a series win over Butler with a walk-off home run in game four, the freshman infielder earned himself KJCCC West Player of the Week for the second time in the 2024 season.
Hopkins was a hero for the Saints throughout the four-game series with Butler this past week as he was the only Saints’ player to record a hit in every game against the Grizzlies. He hit .438 on the week while scoring 8 runs and recording 2 RBIs, 2 2Bs, 1 3B, and a big home run in the clutch of game four on the first pitch in the bottom of the ninth to clinch the series win over Butler as Seward County won the last three games of the series 15-5, 15-14, and 7-6.
In his freshman season for the Saints, Hopkins is hitting .361 at the plate with 34 RBIs, 20 2Bs, 3 3Bs, and 6 Home Runs while leading SCCC to a 25-22 overall record so far in the 2024 campaign.
This is the second time Hopkins has earned this honor this season while being one of three Saints who have been named KJCCC West Player of the Week this year with Trenton Rowan earning it at the start of February while Cameron Cartwright earned it last week.
Seward County will be back in action this upcoming Thursday as they start another Jayhawk conference series against the Colby Trojans with the first two games of the series taking place on Brent Gould Field with game one starting at 1:00 PM.
