LHS Track Opens Thursday with Good Numbers
Brock Kappelmann - March 28, 2024 7:17 am
Liberal’s track and field program has good numbers of athletes out for the sport to begin the season. There are about 100 kids out for track for 13th year head coach Trace Haskell. About 70 are boys and about 30 are girls. The boys scored 12 points at 6A state last year while scoring in all three relays. The girls won the regional last year but did not score at state. Some of the top returning boys are MJ Foster, Cesar Pavia and Beto Torres in long and middle distance and Zayden Martinez in the sprints and jumps. Martinez also plays baseball. Some of the top returning girls are Bentlee Fitzgerald and Hannah McCarter in short and middle distance, Daniela Cerda in long distance, and Shamari Lewis in sprints and jumps. Some Liberal athletes will compete at Ulysses and others at Meade on Thursday.
