Lady Red Wins Battle of the Boards for the Bell at Dodge City

The Liberal Lady Redskins have a winning record in the WAC for an 8th straight year after a 49-35 win at Dodge City Fieldhouse Thursday night. Liberal out-rebounded DCHS 38-27 on the way to their first win at Dodge City since 2020. Liberal wins the Backyard Battle for the Bell in girls basketball.
The Lady Red got off to a slow start. They led 11-7 after one. The Lady Demons led 15-13 before LHS took a 19-17 lead on a Hannah McCarter jumper from the left side just before half. The Lady Redskins out scored DCHS 16-10 in the third quarter and 14-8 in the fourth.
Liberal shot 33 percent and Dodge shot 33 percent. Liberal forced 22 DC turnovers and Liberal committed 15 turnovers. Liberal won despite a 2-17 outing from three point range. However, Liberal was 9-10 from the foul line.
Shamari Lewis registered her sixth double double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Elle Hatcher was named Epic Touch Player of the Game equaling her career high with 12 points and also had 11 rebounds. Hailey Contreras scored 12 and now has 912 career points.
Dodge City is 5-15 and 1-7 in the WAC. Liberal is 14-6 overall and 5-3 in the WAC. Liberal hosts Wichita North Tuesday in 6A on 1270 and 92.3. Liberal moved up the the #3 seed in 6A West after Wichita South lost to Bishop Carroll.
