Seward County baseball continued their road trip on Saturday as they continued their fun in the Texas sun against Midland in a doubleheader where the Saints fell in game one 8-1 but were able to find some big hits in the fourth inning of game two to push them past the Chaps to grab a 9-4 win to end their Texas trip in the win column.

Game one was a struggle for Seward County as Midland took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first off, a double to left field while a costly error by the Saints in the third put SCCC behind 5-0 to the Chaparrals. Kotaro Wakui flew into a double play out to center field to drive in Trenton Rowan for the Saints only score of the game to put them on the board 6-1 behind Midland who countered with two more runs in the fourth to make the score 8-1 where it would stay as Seward County fell to the Chaps in game one of the day.

Game two was the complete opposite for the green and white as the Saints started strong with three scores in the top of the second as Cameron Cartwright scored on a passed ball while Mason Gilbert doubled on a line drive to right field that drove in a combo of Zane Eylar and Keagon Pitton for another two scores. Nathan Hopkins continued the hard hitting with a triple on a fly ball that brought Gilbert and Connor Raney home to make their lead 5-0. Wakui singled to center to reward Hopkins for his triple as he made his way in for another Saints’ run and a home run from Rowan added another pair of scores to make it 8-0 with Seward County far ahead of their opponents. The Chaps found a few opportunities to score over the next few innings to cut the gap in half 8-4 but one final hit from Raney on a single brought Pitton around the bases for the Saints’ ninth run of the game to take the win 9-4 in game two and split the doubleheader against Midland.

Seward County now moves up to a 5-7 overall record on the 2024 season after their road trip in the Lone Star state. They will be back at home on Friday and Saturday to take on Vernon College in a four game series with the first two games beginning Friday at 1:00 and 3:00 PM.
