The Liberal Lady Redskins wrapped up play in the Salina Invitational Tournament with a third place finish.  Liberal topped Salina South 54-50 Saturday morning at Kansas Wesleyan in Salina.

Salina South’s Lady Cougars took early leads of 12-7 and led 14-9 after one.  The Lady Red used a 21-5 second quarter to lead 30-19 at halftime.  SSHT out paced Liberal 18-12 in the third quarter.  Liberal built their biggest lead in the third of 36-24.  It was 42-37 LHS after three.  Foul trouble stacked up on the Lady Red and the Lady Cougars cut the Liberal lead to 42-40 early in the fourth.  Liberal built a 48-41 lead with 3:25 to play.  A 6-0 Salina South run closed the gap to 48-47 with about a minute to play.  Hailey Contrera buried free throws down the stretch for the win.

Shamari Lewis was Epic Touch Player of the Game with 18 points and 12 rebounds.  Hailey Contreras added 12.

Salina South shot 46 percent from the field but Liberal’s defense forced 19 Salina South turnovers.  Liberal only committed seven turnovers.  Liberal shot 34 percent but put up 16 more shots than Liberal.  LHS was 15-25 at the free throw line and SSHS was 12-20.  Liberal was 3-16 from three and Salina South was 4-10.

Shamari Lewis and Hailey Contreras were named to the all tournament team.

Salina South is 6-4 and Liberal is 8-4.  Liberal plays at Woodward Friday night at 6:30 with Redskin Pre-game at 6:15 on 1270 and 92.3.
