Homicide Investigation In Seward County

On Sunday, December 17, 2023 in the early morning, the Seward County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Seward County EMS and Seward County Rural Fire responded to a property in rural Seward County at 15750 Green Hill Road in Seward County for a report of a gunshot victim.

Seward County Deputies arrived on scene and located Jose Luis Rios-Favela, 39-year-old male, of Liberal, with gunshot wounds. Seward County EMS transported the male to Southwest Medical Center where he was later pronounced deceased. A second victim, is a 21 year old male, from Liberal, was located at the scene with minor injuries.

The Seward County Sheriff’s Office requested KBI assistance. KBI agents and the Crime Scene Response Team responded to assist in the investigation.
This was an isolated incident and there is no cause for alarm in the area. The investigation is ongoing.
