Ruth Henry Wilson, age 84, passed away Friday evening, December 1, 2023, at the Lone Tree Retirement Center, Meade, Kansas.
She was born February 1, 1939, at Gans, Oklahoma, the daughter of Truman and Lesola (Woodruff) Henry. As a young girl, she attended school at Gans and later Sallisaw High School, Sallisaw, Oklahoma. She later attended Seward County Community College and received her Bachelor of Science degree from Oklahoma Panhandle State University and her Master of Education degree from Kansas State University. A longtime resident of Plains, she was a schoolteacher for 29 years, having taught junior high English and fourth grade.
She served on the Plains Public Library Board and was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority. She enjoyed reading, traveling, going to the farm with her husband, riding horses, and spending time with her family and friends.
On January 16, 1957, she married Don Wilson at Sallisaw, Oklahoma. He survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Phillip Wilson and wife Deb of Plains and Stephen Wilson of McPherson, Kansas; three grandchildren: Megan Wilson of Plains, Caleb Wilson of Canberra, Australia, and Katie Muraliraj and husband Karthik of Dallas, Texas; and two great-grandchildren, Revan and Maya Muraliraj.
She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother William H. (Bill) Henry.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at the Friends Church of Plains. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Tuesday at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade. The casket will remain closed. Interment will follow the service in the Plains Cemetery.
The family would welcome memorials to the Plains Public Library or the Community Enhancement Foundation of Plains in care of the funeral home.
