KDOT to Share Updated Plans for U.S. 50/400 Expansion at Nov. 16 Meeting

Joe Denoyer - November 6, 2023 8:00 am

A public meeting for four upcoming U.S. 50/400 expansion projects in Finney and Gray counties will take place on Thursday, Nov. 16, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Gray County Recreation Center 4-H Room, 17002 W U.S. 50, in Cimarron. The Kansas Department of Transportation is hosting the event.

The four U.S. 50/400 projects have been divided into two groups for design and construction—a western and an eastern group. The two projects in the western group extend from Aerodrome Road (Garden City Airport) in Finney County east to 7 Road in Gray County. The two eastern group projects extend from 7 Road east to Cimarron in Gray County.

A brief presentation will begin at 5:45 p.m., followed by an opportunity to view proposed improvements made since the November 2022 open house. These projects are nearing completion of the preliminary design phase, and updated plans that show improvement to managing direct highway access while increasing capacity will be on display. These updates are focused on locations where the highway intersects local streets.

Information presented at the meeting will also be available online for those unable to attend. Please visit ike.ksdot.gov/US50-expansion from Nov. 16 to Dec. 2 to view information and provide comments.

Once the four projects are complete, a four-lane connection between Garden City and Dodge City will be nearly complete. This will provide an increase in capacity, relieve congestion and help enhance safety. In September, the western group of projects was selected for the IKE Construction Pipeline; construction is anticipated to begin in 2026. The eastern group of projects is currently in the IKE Development Pipeline.

Anyone who requires language translation, special assistance or accommodation to attend the meeting, please contact Yazmin Moreno at (620) 765-7080 or [email protected] one week before the meeting date.
