After clinching a playoff sport in their inaugural season this past Saturday, the Seward County Saints men’s soccer team went out east towards #5 Barton for their regular season finale where they were unable to create any momentum against the top five nationally ranked Cougars who silenced the Saints 3-0 on Monday afternoon.
After going four straight games without suffering a loss, that streak was ended for Seward County on Monday afternoon when they faced the #5 Barton Cougars in a 1:00 PM matchup. Through the first twenty-five minutes of action the Saints’ defense held strong behind the leadership of Bruno Mestres who made save after save for Seward County to hold the score at 0-0 until a Barton player snuck past the back line and nailed in the first goal of the afternoon to put the Cougars ahead 1-0 and five minutes later another Barton player made it 2-0 with another Cougar goal. A third and final goal by Barton to start the second half wrapped up the final game of the regular season for the Saints as they fell 3-0 to the Cougars heading into the Region VI tournament.
Seward County now falls to 8-7-3 in their inaugural season with a conference record of 3-7-2 in 2023. The Saints now prepare for the Region VI tournament that is scheduled to start Saturday where they will face Cowley on the road in the Quarterfinals.
