Skins Stun Nationally Ranked Dodge City

What a way to end the regular season.  The Liberal Redskins handed the Dodge City Red Demons their first loss of the season in convincing fashion Thursday night at Redskin Field.  Liberal beat #11 in the nation Dodge City 4-2.  George Tejeda scored two goals.  Suain Moncayo and Giezi Gonzalez added goals.

Liberal took a 2-0 lead in the game and led 2-1 at halftime.  George Tejeda scored the first goal on a put back after a Suain Moncayo shot.  Giezi Gonzalez scored the second goal after a Moncayo shot attempt.  Two well placed free kicks by Seth Michel led two Liberal’s two goals in the second half.  Liberal led 3-1 on Michel’s kick which Giezi Gonzalez scored after a deflection.  Dodge City scored less than a minute later to make it 3-2.  Seth Michel lofted a free kick to the right side of the goal to Suain  Moncayo who twisted in the fourth goal with 14:11 to play for the 4-2 lead.  Gael Ruvalcaba had a phenomenal night in goal with 19 saves and he saved a penalty kick.

Dodge City falls to 15-1 and finishes as the WAC champion at 7-1.  Liberal improves to 9-4-3 and finishes second in the WAC at 4-2-2.  Liberal will host a 6A playoff game Tuesday night at 6:30.
