Wednesday night the Seward County Saints took a four-hour bus ride out to Arkansas City, Kansas to take on the fifth ranked team in the NJCAA in #5 Cowley where SCCC was shut out in a 5-0 matchup with the Tigers.
The first half started with an early goal for Cowley only 5:03 into the first half to put them ahead 1-0 and the Saints could never recover. Two more goals at the 22:30 and 28:28 marks from the Tigers put Cowley ahead 3-0 after the first 45:00 minutes of action with Seward County trying everything they could to muster a score of their own. Two early scores in the second half within the first ten minutes of the half put the score at 5-0 and that would go down as the final score through 90:00 minutes of action between the two KJCCC teams.
Goalkeeper Bruno Mestres faced 13 shots on goal with 8 of them resulting in saves while only three Saints attempted shots on the night against the nationally ranked Tigers with Alexander Stevens-Lee attempting the only shot on goal for Seward County.
The Saints now fall to 5-6-2 on their inaugural season in 2023 with a conference record of 1-6-1 in KJCCC action. They will head back home to Liberal, Kansas to face off against Garden City in a 3:00 PM kick off this coming Saturday.
