Saturday afternoon the Seward County Lady Saints volleyball team began the second half of their conference season when they went on the road to take on the Colby Trojans for the second time this season, with this match going the way of the Trojans in a 3-0 sweep over SCCC.
The last time these two teams faced off the Lady Saints were able to hold strong and take a 3-2 win over Colby inside of the Green House. Now on the road against the Trojans, Seward County was unable to repeat their success from their last matchup as Colby. Lajla Rasljanin connected on a huge kill down the middle to tie up the set while Keala Wilson scored a kill of her own from the pin to give the Lady Saints a 15-14 lead over the Trojans but could not maintain it as Colby quickly surpassed SCCC and eventually took set one 25-21 to go up 1-0 in the match.
Set two was all Colby from the start as they amassed an early 4-1 lead over Seward County and never looked back. Rasljanin sent a rocket down the middle of the net to cut the Trojan lead to 10-5 but the Lady Saints were eventually forced into a timeout when Colby grew their lead to 17-8. Jasmyn Kistller tried her best to spark an SCCC run by connecting for her third kill of the match to bring the score to 22-11 while a kill off the slide by Clara Duarte helped Seward County get even closer at 24-17, but it was not enough to hold off the Trojans who took the second 25-17 and grow a 2-0 lead over the Lady Saints.
In the third it was Seward County who took a quick advantage over Colby as Rafaela DaSilva found Marcelina Pyka in the middle for a huge kill while Duarte sent back a Trojan attack on a solo block to put SCCC ahead 5-3. That lead did not last long as once again Colby came storming back and forced the Lady Saints into a timeout with the Trojans ahead 20-14 before Colby completed the 3-0 sweep over Seward County, taking the third set 25-16.
The Lady Saints now fall to .500 on their 2023 season with an overall record of 11-11 with a conference record of 3-6 in KJCCC action. They will return home on Wednesday to take on the Hutchinson Blue Dragons inside of the Green House in a 6:30 PM matchup.
