Seward County Men’s Soccer made a six-hour trip to Coffeyville, Kansas to take on the Red Ravens in conference action where the Saints were able to grab their first conference win in program history over Coffeyville in a 1-0 victory to move up to fifth place in the KJCCC standings.

The biggest strength for the Saints throughout their inaugural season has been their consistency on the defensive side of the ball and that stayed true throughout their contest against the Red Ravens on Wednesday. Both sides exchanged possessions throughout the first half with both sides holding the other at bay while trying to create some wiggle room to create offensive momentum that never emerged for either side as they ended the first 45:00 with a 0-0 score heading into halftime.

Bruno Mestres continued to show off the Saints strong defense with some big time saves to protect the goal and keep the Red Ravens scoreless to start the second half and continue to limit their shot attempts. With under ten minutes to go in the contest SCCC was slowly able to gain some rhythm offensively and drive down the field where Tales Ruiz found Javier Ruchelli Alvarez for the goal to put the Saints ahead 1-0 with 7:34 left in the game and Coffeyville was unable to respond as Seward County grabbed their first conference win of the season in KJCCC action to improve to 4-3-2 on their inaugural season.

The Saints now return to Liberal, Kansas to prepare for #7 Barton in a 3:00 PM matchup on Redskin Field against the Cougars.
