Betty Mae Pitts, age 95, passed away Saturday, September 2, 2023, at the Frankfort Community Care Home, Frankfort, Kansas.
She was born October 20, 1927, in rural Meade County, Kansas, the daughter of Walter Ernest and Ora Isbell (Boyd) Fletcher. As a young girl, she attended school in Meade, graduating from Meade High School in 1945. A longtime resident of Meade, she was a registered nurse at the Meade District Hospital for over fifty years.
In June of 1947, she married Claude Whitehead. Later in, January, 1970, she married Robert M. Daugherty, M.D. After his passing, she married Forest J. Pitts in, November, 1997. He passed away May, 2023.
She is survived by two daughters, Pamela (Whitehead) White of Waterville, Kansas, and Patricia (Whitehead) Jackson of Payson, Arizona; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Whitehead of Andover, Kansas; her blended family, Robert M. Daugherty, Jr. M.D., Maryann Godkin, Larry Pitts, Randy Pitts, Alan Pitts, and Shaun Buchanan; four grandchildren; thirteen blended grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and twenty blended great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert M. Daugherty, M.D.; husband, Forrest J. Pitts; a son, Steve Whitehead; her parents; a brother, Thomas Fletcher; and a sister, Mary Irene Lemaster.
A celebration of Betty’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 11, 2023, at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Private family interment will be in the Graceland Cemetery, Meade.
