Rachel Barnes might just have gotten the icing on top of
her cake for her Seward County career this morning as the sophomore
forward was named a 1st Team NJCAA All-American for her effort on the
hardwood this season for the Lady Saints. This season, the Lady Saint
sophomore was 3rd in the country in scoring at 21.3 points per game and
was less than .8 of a point per game from leading the entire country in
scoring for the season. As well as leading the conference in scoring by
over 4 points per game, Barnes also finished in the top 4 in the Jayhawk
Conference in field goal percentage, free throw percentage and rebounds.
She became only the 7th player in school history to top the 1,000 career
point mark as she finished with 1,169 career points which ranks her
between Kim Ortega and Tracy Wynn in 4th place on the Seward County
All-Time scoring list. She also found her way into the record books
this season by scoring 41 points in a postseason win over Cowley giving
her the single game scoring record. The sophomore is in the process of
making her Division 1 visits and hopes to be making her college choice
once those visits are complete.
