Cody Lyn Frantz, 25, of Balko, Oklahoma entered into his eternal home on August 2, 2023.
He was born on July 7, 1998, in Perryton, Texas to parents, Corey and Kathy and big brother, Grady.
Cody developed his ornery grin in the first few weeks of life. A trademark of his that never quite left his face for the next 25 years. He grew up in the Balko community, a community that he served and loved his entire life. He attended Balko School from PreK through 12th grade, graduating with the Class of 2017. His peers voted him Mr. BHS. Accurately, he was also voted Most Likely to be Remembered. He was active in football, basketball, and FFA. Cody was the recipient of the State FFA Degree and was named a K101 Classic Bowl All Star in football. He also participated in track, but that was a venture that Cody would just as soon forget. After graduation, he attended Dodge City Community College and was on the Rodeo Team there. He loved to compete but was known to help an opposing team member up before making a tackle or making conversation while waiting for a free throw and forgetting to rebound.
Cody was currently working for Brice Sager at Tri State Heating and Air but farmed and ranched his whole life with his father, brother, and extended family. Cody worked part-time for Beaver County Stockyards and was a captain with the Balko Volunteer Fire Department. His service to the fire department came from his deep love of his country and his fellow man. He enjoyed riding ATVs in Red River, team roping, and being a football and basketball referee.
Cody was baptized at Crossroads Bible Fellowship on May 23, 2010, and had been attending Community Faith Church in Balko for the last two years.
Cody’s most enduring trait was his smile and if you knew Cody, that smile was contagious. A smile of joy helping a kid climb up the slide at Vacation Bible School. A smile of mischief as he was about to devour a big plate of food. A smile of warmth as he chatted with an elderly neighbor. A smile of pride holding the newborn babies of his childhood friends. It wasn’t really the smile that defined Cody’s life. It was his ability to relate to other people and to love them no matter the circumstance. And because of his faith, we can rest assured that he had a smile of awe and wonder like nothing we have ever seen as he entered into the arms of Jesus.
He is preceded in death by his grandfather Howard Frantz and grandmother Frances “Frannie” McClendon.
Survivors include his parents, Corey and Kathy Frantz of Balko; brother, Grady and wife Baylee of Balko; paternal grandmother, Sonja Frantz of Balko, maternal grandfather, Roy McClendon of Leedey, Oklahoma, maternal grandmother, Donna Hitt of Perryton, Texas, great grandparents, Wesley and Sharon Metzler of Leedey, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives, and friends.
