Casey Ryle Deister

Casey Ryle Deister was born in Ulysses, Kansas, December 21, 1958. He was the youngest of four boys born to Lorraine Marie (Lancaster) Deister and Raymond Lee Deister.

He also lived in Spearman, Texas and Perryton, Texas before returning to Ulysses. Casey attended Catholic Elementary School in Ulysses and then Ulysses Public Schools. He participated in the sports of baseball and wrestling in his youth. He was on the same baseball team with his older brother Cole for a while and he was catcher when Cole was pitching. There is a story that Casey and Cole got in a fight with each other halfway between home plate and the pitcher’s mound. That is something you would have to ask Cole about. While he enjoyed these sporting activities, his real passion was Rodeo. He was an accomplished saddle bronc, bareback bronc and bull rider. He loved the sport and the people he rode with. He placed high in many of the Rodeos he participated in and won considerable money doing it.

After he was done with formal education, Casey went about trying to make a living when there wasn’t a Rodeo to go to. He worked with his friend Max learning bodywork and painting cars. He was a very good painter but didn’t like the bodywork end of the business. He owned his own body shop for a while, but then left Ulysses for Evanston, Wyoming, where his brother Cole was living and working at the time. Over the last 30 plus years, Casey has lived in the Evanston area working as an industrial painter and welder’s helper in the oil and gas industry. His health has declined quickly over the past five years or so. This decline led to his passing on the night of July 27, 2023.

Casey was preceded in death by his parents; cousins, Bobbie Deister, Jerry Webb and Carla Deckard; and several close friends.

He is survived by brothers, Jim (Rita), Bob (Bev), and Cole (Niccole); former sister-in-law, Galena Deister; and several nieces and nephews. Casey is also survived by former wives, Becky and Cindy. He had no children of his own. Surviving also is special friend and caregiver for the past 10 years, Suzy Dowie.
