LIBERAL, Kan. – The Seward County baseball program is well represented on the postseason awards list with 8 saints making the KJCCC West All-Conference team. Jaxson Gregg, Trenton Rowan, Cameron Cartwright, Elijah Bear, Brian Luna Alvarez, Tristan Curless, Connor Cox, and Aidan moore are all members of the All-KJCCC West Division for 2023 with Cameron Cartwright named Freshman of the Year.
Jaxson Gregg, 1B – KJCCC West First-Team:
Gregg, a first team selection finished the year with a .349 batting average and an on-base-percentage sitting at .486 with 195 at-bats (AB). In those 195 Abs, Jaxson had 68 hits, 12 doubles, 3 triples, 8 home runs with 60 runs batted in and 60 runs scored. Gregg set a Seward County career record with 31 hit-by-pitches during his time as a Saint.
Trenton Rowan, 3B – KJCCC West First-Team:
In 207 at bats Rowan recorded 79 hits with 23 doubles, 1 triple and 10 home runs while hitting for an average of .382 and an on base percentage of .437. Rowan’s 23 doubles rank T-4th all time for a single season in Saints’ history. In the field, Trenton had 51 put-outs and 31 assists helping turn three double-plays from the hot corner.
Cameron Cartwright, SS – KJCCC West First-Team:
Freshman of the Year and first team selection, Cameron Cartwright batted leadoff for the Saints and helped set the table throughout the season. Cartwright finished his freshman campaign with 174 at bats, 65 hits, 10 doubles, 1 triple and 17 home runs with 46 runs batted in. Cartwright scored 59 runs and hit for an average of .374 on the year with an on base percentage of .444. In the field, Cameron turned 13 double plays with 52 putouts and 58 assists. Cartwright’s 17 homeruns rank in the top 10 all-time in Saints’ history.
Elijah Bear, DH – KJCCC West First-Team
Bear, a first team selection, lead the team with 20 homeruns and 80 runs batted in. Elijah slugged the ball all over the ball park and hit for a .387 average with a .463 on base percentage while drawing 21 walks and only striking out 36 times in 212 at bats. Elijah recorded a team leading 82 hits with 20 doubles and 72 runs scored. Bear’s home run numbers rank 3rd all-time in program history.
Brian Luna Alvarez, SP – KJCCC West First-Team
The lefty ace from Colorado is a first team selection for the Saints after winning 10 games and only dropping 3 for Seward County. Luna pitched 81 innings and was able to record 103 strikeouts for an average just below 12 for every 9 innings pitched. Luna finished the season with a 5.44 ERA, allowing only 72 hits and 49 earned runs throughout the year. Brian’s win total ranks T-8th all-time for a single-season in program history with his strikeout numbers ranking 3rd all-time for a single season.
Tristan Curless, OF – KJCCC West Second-Team
The Saints’ only second-team selection, Tristan Curless was a two-way player for Seward County and had a team high batting average of .433. Curless also lead the team in on base percentage with a staggering .513 mark. Tristan recorded 58 hits with 11 doubles, 4 triples and 10 home runs. In the field, Curless was a steady force with 63 put outs and 8 assists in 72 total chances leaving him with a .986 field percentage ranking second on the team.
Connor Cox, OF – KJCCC West Honorable Mention
Cox, an honorable mention selection, recorded a .371 batting average and an on base percentage 100 points above that. A steady force behind the plate recorded 65 hits with 13 doubles, 3 triples and 8 home runs while batting in 48 runs and scoring 58 himself. Connor was second on the team in walks with 30.
Aidan Moore, SP – KJCCC West Honorable Mention
Moore, the second ace for the Saints started 13 games and had 5 wins against 6 losses while tossing one complete game. In 68 innings pitched Moore recorded 53 strikeouts to only 36 walks. Aidan finished the season with a 6.09 ERA allowing 75 hits and 65 runs in his Sophomore campaign.
Seward County lead all KJCCC West teams with 5 First-Team selections after a historically great offensive season for the Saints. The 8 All-KJCCC selections ranks third on the West side of the conference behind Barton and Cloud. The Saints recently finished their season falling to Fort Scott in the Region VI/Plains District baseball tournament after going 33-26 overall and 20-12 in the KJCCC.
