Demons Down Skins in Regular Season Finale

The Liberal Redskins dropped their last regular season game 5-3 Tuesday night at Demon Field in Dodge City.  Liberal has dropped six of their last eight games.

The Redskins scored first plating a run in the third.  Fidel Avila walked and Blayden Betts laid down a sac bunt.  Aidan Schwindt walked and Brooks Kappelmann singled.  Zayden Martinez bounced out to short but drove home a run.  The Red Demons scored three runs on one hit in the third on three walks and at HBP.  The Redskins scored two in the fourth to tie the game.  Marco Alonso reached on an error.  Landon Martinez and Fidel Avila singled.  Aidan Schwindt lined a two RBI single by the shortstop.  DCHS reclaimed the lead in the fourth.  The Demons added a run in the sixth.

Liberal out-hit Dodge City 6-5.  Both teams committed one error.  Zayden Martinez started the game on the mound and had good stuff not allowing a hit but walked four and hit one.  Brooks Kappelmann worked 3 and 2/3 shutout innings without allowing an earned run.  He struck out four and did not issue a walk.  Kappelmann was 2-4 at the plate.  Marco Alonso had the team’s only extra base hit when he doubled off the wall in right.  The wind was howling in at up to 45 miles per hour when the game started.

Dodge City is 8-10 and finishes second in the WAC at 5-3.  Liberal is 10-10 and 3-5 in the WAC.  The Skins have dropped three straight.  LHS will play on the road in their regional game next week on 1270 and 92.3.
