The Western Athletic Conference’s first place team the Hays Indians swept the Liberal Lady Red softball team 16-1 and 19-11 Tuesday afternoon at the National Beef Sports Complex.

In game one, Hays scored two in the first and Liberal scored one.  Zoey Torres drove home a run.  Hays scored single runs in the second and third to lead 4-1.  They scored 12 in the fourth and won the game in four innings due to run rule.  The Indians out-hit the Redskins 14-4.  Liberal committed four errors.

In game two, both teams bats were raring to go.  Hays scored three in the first and Liberal scored one.  HHS plated two in the second and three in the third to lead 8-1.  LHS scored four in the third to make it 8-5 after three.  Hays scored one in the fourth.  Liberal plated five in the fourth and forced a pitching change as LHS took a 10-9 lead after four.  Hays scored seven in the fifth to take hold of the game.  Hays scored three in the sixth.   Hays out-hit Liberal 23-14.  Liberal had four errors and Hays had two.

Hays had clinched at least a share of the WAC title with a 10-1 WAC record and 12-3 overall.  Liberal is 0-8 in the WAC and 3-13 overall.  Liberal plays a single game at Hays on Thursday.
