Neal Foster, age 82, passed away early Monday morning, May 1, 2023, at the Lone Tree Retirement Center, Meade, Kansas.
He was born September 6, 1940, at Portales, New Mexico, the son of John Evert and Bonnie Inez (Sherman) Foster. As a young boy he attended school in Floyd, New Mexico, graduating from Floyd High School in 1959.
On October 23, 1959, he married Ravenna P. Waide at Portales. After their marriage, he furthered his education, attending Eastern New Mexico State University. The couple made their home in the Portales, NM area pastoring numerous churches in New Mexico, Texas and Utah for several years before moving to Plains, Kansas, as the pastor of the First Baptist Church in Plains, where he finished his 60 years of pastorial service.
He was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church of Liberal, the Lions Club, served on the Plains Library Board, and the Southwest Kansas Guidance Center Board. He enjoyed playing golf and baseball, reading, and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Ravenna of the home; three daughters, Kelly Osbourne and husband Brian of Stanton, Texas, Stephanie Lee and husband John of Kismet, and Barbara Price of Midland, Texas; nine grandchildren; and twenty great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law, Paul Price.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade, Kansas. In accordance to his request, cremation has taken place. Interment will follow in the Kismet Cemetery, Kismet.
