Kansas House Republicans Set To Release Budget

The chairman of a Kansas House committee says Republicans are preparing to release a plan for balancing the 2011 state budget without raising taxes.

Rep. Kevin Yoder said Wednesday the plan will cut funding for some programs while freezing others.

Yoder chairs the House Appropriations Committee, which will release its plan Thursday. Without giving specifics, Yoder says the plan will include creative ways to cut spending in the budget year that starts July 1.

The state is facing a $467 million gap between projected revenues and mandated spending in the 2011 budget.
