Seward Bats Stay Hot in Sweep Over Busters

It wasn’t just the wind.  With calm weather conditions in game one and the wind blowing out in game two, the Seward County Saints swept the Garden City Broncbusters 24-9 and 23-8 Saturday afternoon and evening at Brent Gould Field.  Seward sweeps the four game series and scored 103 runs in the process.

In game one, Garden City plated a run in the first against starter Trent Gerber.  Seward scored four in the first.  Jaxson Gregg hit a towering three run home run to left to give the Saints a 3-1 lead.  After two walks, Trenton Rowan singled home a run for the 4-1 lead.  The Busters scored one in the second to make it 4-2.  SCCC went off on the Busters for eight in the second and a 12-2 lead.  Cameron Cartwright singled and stole second.  Jaxson Gregg singled home a run.  Elijah Bear singled.  Tristan Curless was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.  Jarron Wilcox singled home a run.  Trenton Rowan singled home two.  Connor Cox hit a three run home run to left.  GCCC scored three in the third to make it 12-5.  The Saints scored nine in the third.  After a lead off walk to Gregg, Elijah Bear doubled.  Mason Hagel-Pitt hit a sac fly.  Tristan Curless singled home a run.  Jarron Wilcox singled home a run.  Trenton Rowan doubled.  Cameron Cartwright cleared the bases with a three RBI double.  After a walk to Gregg, Elijah Bear singled home two.  Tristan Curless singled home a run to make it 21-5.  The Busters scored two in the fourth.  Trenton Rowan singled to lead off the fourth.  With two outs, Ranse Radtke singled home a run.  Jaxson Gregg hit a two run home run for his second of the game.  Gregg was the Epic Touch Player of the Game going 3-3 with two homers and six RBI’s.  Trenton Rowan was 4-4 and Elijah Bear was 3-5.  Seward out-hit GCCC 19-14.

In game two, the “Guys in Green” scored five in the first.  Cameron Cartwright was hit by a pitch.  Ranse Radtke singled and Jaxson Gregg singled home a run.  Elijah Bear hit a three run homer.  Mason Hagel-Pitt singled.  Connor Raney added an RBI single.  The Broncbusters scored two in the second against starter Tristan Curless.  The Saints scored five more in the second.  Jaxson Gregg was hit by a pitch.  Elijah Bear walked.  Mason Hagel-Pitt reached on an error.  Connor Cox doubled home a run.  Jordan Crowder walked.  Cameron Cartwright tripled home two for a 10-2 lead after two.  GCCC scored one in the third.  The Saints scored seven in the third.  Jaxson Gregg lined a home run to left to lead off the inning.  Elijah Bear doubled.  Mason Hagel-Pitt singled him home.  Trenton Rowan doubled home Hagel-Pitt.  Jordan Crowder grounded to second to score a run.  Raney and Cartwright walked and Ranse Radtke single home a run.  Jaxson Gregg provided an RBI single.  Elijah Bear singled home a run for the 17-3 lead after three.  The Busters scored two in the fourth.  Trenton Rowan homered to lead off the fourth for the 18-5 lead.  The Broncbusters scored three in the fifth to make it 18-8.  But SCCC scored five in the fifth.  Ranse Radtke singled to lead off the inning.  Elijah Bear doubled home a run.  Trenton Rowan walked.  Connor Cox singled home a run.  Jordan Crowder singled home a run.  Connor Raney singled home a run.  Cameron Cartwright doubled home a run.  Seward out-hit GCCC 22-12.  Elijah Bear was the Epic Touch Player of the Game.  Bear was 4-5 with a home run and five RBI’s.  Jaxson Gregg, Connor Raney, and Ranse Radtke had three hits a piece.

Seward outscored GCCC in the series 103-28.  The Saints scored in 21 straight innings until they finally did not tally a run in the bottom of the sixth of game two on Saturday.  The Saints had one nine run inning, two eight run innings, five seven run innings, five (5) run innings, and three (4) run innings.  Of the 22 offensive innings for the Saints, they scored multiple runs in 19 of the 22 innings.

Garden City is 6-27 overall and 3-13 in the Jayhawk West.  Seward is 20-18 overall and 10-6 and tied with Dodge City for second in the Jayhawk West.  Seward has won eight games in a row.  The Saints host Lamar Tuesday at 2pm at Brent Gould Field.
