Lawrence Edward (Larry) Donahue, age 90, passed away Tuesday afternoon, January 24, 2023, at the Kansas Medical Center, Andover, Kansas.
He was born May 3, 1932, at Dodge City, Kansas, the son of Patrick J. and Lucille M. (Sullivan) Donahue. As a young boy, he attended grade school in Plains and later the Liberty Noll country grade school. He later attended Plains High School, graduating in 1950. Upon his graduation, he attended Dodge City Community College on a football scholarship. In 1951, he joined the United States Navy, serving until 1955. After his discharge, he returned to the Plains area and began his career in farming.
He was a member of the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and served on the Mertilla Township Board of Trustees. He enjoyed playing tennis, traveling, watching birds, visiting about the moisture received in the area, and spending time with his family and friends.
On October 20, 1956, he married the love of his life Marjorie Albrecht at Dodge City, Kansas. She survives.
Other survivors include his children, Greg Donahue of Plains, Ann Taylor and husband Tim of Hennessey, Oklahoma, Janet Brock and husband Ted of Dodge City, Kansas, Gary Donahue of Wichita, Kansas, and Regina Victor and husband Eric of Garden City, Kansas; a sister, Carol Sue Vogel of Wichita, Kansas; ten grandchildren, Stacy Ward, Abby Fox, Krista Morrison, Tyrus Taylor, Tanner Brock, Zach Taylor, Erika Victor, Trevor Brock, Dylan Victor, and Haley Victor; and ten great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Daniel Donahue in 2013; and three sisters, Marynell Donahue in 1928, Patty Lou Donahue in 1941, and Rosemary Fletcher in 2012.
Vigil services will be held at 6:00 p.m. Sunday, January 29, 2023, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Plains. Holy Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 30, 2023, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Friends may call from 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade. Interment will follow in the Plains Cemetery, Plains.
