Abie Delano Hamm

Abie Delano Hamm was born on December 17, 1937, in Texas County OK, son of Abraham and Helen Hamm. Abie grew up with sisters Jeanette, Sonya, and Sandra. Abie graduated from Meade Bible Academy and shortly thereafter was united in marriage with Verna Classen on July 18, 1958, at Meade Country Church. They made their permanent home in Adams OK where they raised four sons: Rod, Terry, Lonnie, and Darren.

Abie grew up farming, which he continued until his retirement a few years ago when he was physically unable to continue. Abie also started a construction business in the late 70s, Wheatland Builders. He started with farm related construction, but over time his projects expanded to include commercial and residential. He had exceptional self-taught engineering skills and was never afraid to try new types of construction ventures.

Abie accepted Christ at a young age and wanted others to hear the gospel, giving him a heart for missions. One of his last wishes was to donate a portion of his estate to missions. Abie was a charter member of the Gospel of Grace Church. He served on the church board, including as chairman, served on many committees, and enjoyed singing in various church music groups.

In his later years he dealt with Parkinson’s and lived at Good Samaritans in Liberal KS. Abie is survived by his four sons: Rod of Hooker OK, Terry and Carrie of Denver CO, Lonnie and his wife Janet and their son Nathan of Boulder Colorado, and Darren and his wife Laura and their children Luke and Emily of Atlanta GA. He is also survived by his sisters Jeanette of Corn OK, Sonja of Balko OK, and Sandra and her husband Pete of Adams OK.

Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, January 23, 2023, at the Gospel of Grace Church in Hooker, Oklahoma with Pastor Chris McFarland officiating. Interment will be in the Hooker Cemetery and take place earlier on Monday.
