“Voting can be fun” is the concept behind the Early Voting Party set for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, in the parking lot north of the Seward County Administration Building, 515 N. Washington. Sponsored by the Liberal Area Coalition for Families, it is a non-partisan event geared toward promoting voting and early voting.

“We wanted to raise awareness that the Seward County Clerk’s office was having early voting on Saturday, Nov. 5 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.,” said Kay Burtzloff, LACF President. “For anyone working an 8 to 5 job, this gives them a great opportunity to early vote.”

Burtzloff said the Coalition will be providing free food, including grilled hot dogs, chips, miniature apple, and cherry pies, and bottled water. “We will also have games for the kids to play and people can sign up to win $25 gift cards.”

She said that voting is not necessary to join the party or to sign up for the prizes. “While its main purpose is to encourage people to vote, we also wanted to provide a fun community event.” She said that Seward County Community College gave the Coalition permission to use its parking lot. “We wanted to be careful to have the event convenient to the voting site but not violate any election laws.”

“Our goal has been to increase voter participation in Seward County and we certainly saw that in the primary,” Burtzloff said. “This is an important election with extensive ballot statewide races, judges’ retention, and two constitutional amendments so we’ve also been providing non-partisan voter information. If you have any questions about your voter registration, you can easily check it at ksvotes.org.”
