Liberal competed at regionals in Garden City Friday. The tournament was an open draw which put all singles players against each other and all doubles team against each other. Liberals team consisted of #1 singles Katie Classen, who finished 3-1 and having to grind it out in two matches that both lasted over 2 1/2 hours each. Classen placed 5th and qualified for state after beating opponents from Campus and Dodge City. #2 singles Ava Maxwell lost in the first round ending her season afterwards, but still gaining a lot of experience along the season and showing great determination in her first regional. The #1 doubles team of Lanee Harp & Arely Molina finished 1-2 dropping their qualifying match in a hard fought tight match. They showed a lot of improvement as the season went on and definitely gave every team a run for their money. The #2 doubles team of Amy Nguyen & Kellyn Phan lost their first round match, bringing their season to an end. They showed so much grit and determination and we’re so proud the way they handled the season. Liberal will be represented by Katie Classen at the State tournament this weekend in Wichita.
“All of our girls showed great sportsmanship and grit. Putting up a fight in every match and we’re in every point till the very end. The girls were extremely resilient and motivated all year and we’re honored to have gotten a chance to coach these girls. While we may not have gotten all the results we were looking for, it was a great and memorable season. We’re super excited to continue building this program up and creating an atmosphere of champions.”
