Garden City Cross Country Meet
September 27, 2022
It’s a great day to be an Apache! The Apaches were able to experience a nice flat course today at the Tangeman Sports Complex in Garden City. Medals were not available for this meet but we were within reach of a first place team plaque.
Our 7th grade Lady Apaches started the day strong with 5 runners earning new personal records. First came Yatzira Nunez, beating her old record by one second and finishing in 6th place with a time of 7:06. Yaritzi Escobar stayed close throughout the race and finished in 7th with a time of 7:22, taking off 13 seconds from before. Danna Ortega gave it her all at the end and crossed the finish line with a time of 8 minutes for 20th place and only five hundredths of a second behind her competition. Zureidy Navarro joined us for one more race and blasted past a runner on the line to come in 24th with a time of 8:14, barely coming in one hundredth of a second in front of her competition. Next was Bailey Castro who also finished strong and earned a time of 8:54. This week it was Dianiley Vega, Joceline Rosales, and Yaretzi Rosas who ran together and finished in with times of 9:17, 9:27 and 9:37. Jaydelyn Ryan finished strong to keep a two second lead on her competition with a time of 10:15. Doing her best was Zaira Mendoza with a time of 10:19, just four hundredths of a second behind her competition. Bella Patel and Odette Ortega brought the team home to finish the 7th grade girls race. Yatzira Nunez, Yaritzi Escobar, Bailey Castro, Joceline Rosales, Jaydelyn Ryan and Zaira Mendoza all set personal records today.
Our three 7th grade boys decided to show everyone how it is done and each of them earned new personal records today. Juan Ledesma led the way and cut his record down by forty seconds to 7:17. Cutting almost three minutes off his time, Alexis Arcos came in with a time of 8:41. He was followed closely by Elian Escobar who showed younger siblings how to finish a race forty-five seconds faster than before with a time of 9:15. Way to go to all of our seventh grade Apaches.
The 8th grade Lady Apaches ran fairly close together with each other. As always, Evelin Tarango led her team to the finish with a time of 17:27, sprinting to the finish to beat the competition by two seconds. Grace Diazdeleon came in two places after Evelin with a time of 17:33. Our Jessica’s made it easy to cheer them on as Jessica Pando and Jessica Diazdeleon ran together throughout the race. Pando kicked it in at the end to finish with a time of 18:14. Diazdeleon earned her personal record of 18:16. Yvanna Rivera and Alea Diaz finished strong with times of 19:34 and 21:14.
Three of our five 8th grade Apaches ran their personal records today as well. Jose Escobar worked his way to the front and finished in 8th place with a time of 13:22, one second short of his record. Cain Ortiz finished at exactly 14 minutes making his personal record an easy one to remember and Benjamyn Brockett finished at 14:41. Our last two runners of the day are Marco Rivas at 14:58 and Brandon Ailon at 15:28, both of whom earned personal records.
What we have proven today is that sprinting at the end can make all the difference. Some were able to beat their competition by seconds or less while others were less than a second from passing others. Either way there was a great show of effort and very nice finishes throughout the day.
