Peggy J. Peden, age 77, of Ulysses, Kansas, died Thursday, March 24, 2022, at Kearny County Assisted Living in Lakin, Kansas. She was born September 30, 1944, in Amarillo, Texas, the daughter of Joseph M. and Viola A. (Wehmeier) Emerson.
Peggy grew up in Texline, Texas; and had lived in Guymon, Oklahoma, and moved to Ulysses in 1969. She worked at Ulysses Co-op and Minter-Wilson Drilling for many years. Peggy enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, traveling, cooking for family and friends, playing cards, and shooting craps. While living in the country, she enjoyed peaceful hours spent mowing and working in her yard. Peggy was married to Larry Peden and Ronald Lofland. They both preceded her in death.
Peggy is survived by her children, Joe Peden and wife Suzie of Bloomington, Illinois, Pam Wallgren of Lafayette, Louisiana, and Kurtis Peden and wife Tess of Ulysses, Kansas. She enjoyed six grandchildren, Bryan Peden, Tyler Peden, Tanner Peden, Brittney Peden, Danielle Abshire, and Jaclyn Bourque; and seven great-grandchildren.
Peggy is preceded in death by her father, Joseph Emerson; mother, Viola Bangs; step-father, Merle Bangs; sister, Mary Wirz; and husbands, Larry Peden in 1979, and Ronald Lofland in 2010.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, May 27, 2022, at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses. The family is very thankful for the heartfelt care provided by the nurses and staff at her assisted living facility.
